University Of Phoenix

For the University of Phoenix, Mc Gowan completed an interior fit-out of offices and educational facilities occupying the top floor of a building that also houses the Miami Children's Hospital Outpatient Center.

The facility encompasses a reception area, student resource center with Internet tutoring bars, twelve classrooms, five study rooms, two interview rooms, four private offices, a 3,800 square foot open plan administrative area, conference room, student kitchenette, bathrooms and the faculty's facilities.

Finishes include exposed ceilings and ductwork, acoustic tile ceilings, glass divider walls, Hufcor movable partition walls in the conference room, carpet tile flooring, custom millwork and cabinetry.

The state-of-the-art classrooms feature flat screen televisions, smart boards, digital projectors and motorized screens, and wireless Internet connections.

The University’s location above a busy hospital posed a unique complexity in the project. Mc Gowan coordinated construction activities and utilities shutdowns with the hospital’s management. Elevator use was scheduled in advance and noisy activities were performed only in the early morning hours to minimize disruptions.
