Felician College

The modern Felician College Education Commons building, set on the private Catholic college's Rutherford campus, consists of a high-tech nursing center, classrooms and libraries, occupying a former building that had been vacant for years. The Commons houses study areas and a research center equipped with state-of-the-art technology, but most significant is the Nursing Resource and Simulation Center, a facility intended to resemble a hospital setting where nursing students can practice on mannequins in simulated real-life scenarios.

As General Contractor, Mc Gowan completed a total renovation of and addition to the existing abandoned library building. The project included demolition of all interiors and removal of the exterior façade to make way for a new curtain wall system with metal panel, removal of the existing roofing and substrate, and installation of a new EPDM roofing system with new copings.

An addition was built for a new elevator and shaft including all new footings and block. Finishes included all new storefronts, glass partitions, glass doors and windows, new custom millwork, ceramic tile and stone, installation of carpet, Linoleum and VCT, and painting/wall covering.

Specialties included lockers, bathroom partitions and accessories, vinyl curtains, projectors and screens, smart boards, window treatments, blackboards and tackboards, as well as coordinating custom furniture installations. The construction also included new MEP systems, fire alarm and sprinkler system distribution, and new tele/data/AV/security wiring and equipment.

Working within an active college campus located in a residential neighborhood was a complexity of the project, navigated by the Mc Gowan team through a precisely detailed logistics, staging and materials delivery plan to minimize its impact on the students, staff and the surrounding residents.
