Mc Gowan was retained by the Cenacle Sisters as General Contractors to construct their new Convent and Sanctuary building. The project has been awarded the LEED Gold certification.
The new complex of religious facilities houses a chapel and four-seasons prayer space with a covered loggia. In addition, the newly constructed facilities include administrative offices, dining facilities, meeting and spiritual direction rooms, ten Sister rooms, two guest rooms and twenty-four private residences as well as craft and music rooms, a community room, library, bathing spa, laundry and garages.
The project integrated numerous environmentally friendly components including high-efficiency boilers, fluorescent lights, low-flow shower heads and faucets, extensive day-lighting through clerestory windows, and a geothermal heating and cooling water system.
The scope called for demolition of the pre-existing building while preserving numerous historical elements for reuse including roof tiles and sculptures. The demolition was performed in an environmentally-sensitive manner that encompassed recycling of the debris and remediation of hazardous materials prior to demolition.
