Continuing its relationship with office supply chain retailer Staples, Inc., Mc Gowan served as General Contractor for the new Staples store in Jackson Heights, New York.
The million-dollar project encompassed a complete fit-out of an 18,000 square foot space, including a 12,000 sq ft sales floor and an 8,000 sq ft storage area in the basement. The first floor houses the entrance, check-out counter, sales floor, print and copy shop, receiving area/loading dock, security booth, two restrooms and the employee lounge. Prior to build-out, Mc Gowan performed a selective demolition of the space.
Finishes include carpet tile and ceramic tile flooring, painted walls, slatwall panels, ninety suspended luminescent light fixtures and painted Q-Deck ceilings. The laborers removed parts of the pre-existing storefront, replaced it with new windows and installed a new chain-operated gate door.
Mc Gowan coordinated installation of the shelving and provided electrical connections for exposition cases. In the basement, the crew constructed a new electrical and telecommunications closet as well as refinished the concrete floor with an epoxy sealant.
The project involved upgrades and relocations of the MEP systems, construction of a new masonry elevator shaft and installation of a new freight elevator. To deliver the project on a challenging nine week deadline, the Mc Gowan team extended work scheduling to include overtime and weekends.
