The 427-room Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center is a highrise facility located in the Meadowlands area of New Jersey, near MetLife Stadium.
The extensive project encompassed a total renovation of 250 guestrooms and suites as well as all 427 guest bathrooms, corridors, elevator lobbies on guestroom floors, the main lobby, reception desk, restaurant, bar, employee lounge and locker room, swimming pool, fitness center, twelve meeting rooms, two ballrooms and a pre-function space. The scope included construction of a new Starbucks Internet Café and outside patio, renovation of the main and banquette kitchens, a porte-cochère, and repairs to the hotel’s roof and curtain wall, all completed while the hotel continued to operate.
To minimize the impact of the renovation on the operations of the guest-occupied portions of the hotel, the Mc Gowan team developed a detailed and phased construction schedule specifying concentrated construction activities in select areas. Other project complexities included staging and logistics, access to vertical transportation, manpower management, unexpected site conditions, long-lead delivery of imported and custom materials, and compliance with multiple zoning, inspection, and certification authorities.
