Founded in 1920, the Nightingale-Bamford school located on Manhattan's Upper East Side is a private, all-female, independent university-prep institution for grades K-12. As General Contractor, Mc Gowan provided services for a complete renovation of the existing 50,000 sq ft landmarked facility as well as a 25,000 sq ft ground-up addition.
The modern new addition incorporates state-of-the-art science labs and a robotics studio, a greenhouse, a blackbox theatre, specialized music practice rooms and a digital media lab. The most advanced technology is integrated into every corner of the schoolhouse and students have video conferencing in every room.
Renovations to the current structure include a a newly imagined main library and an expanded Lower School library, a redesigned student center, two Lower School science labs, a public speaking theater, a new fitness room and an Upper School Commons.
To minimize disruption of the student body Mc Gowan scheduled construction on the existing schoolhouse around the year.
