This unique high-tech media arts production and theatre facility is constructed inside the Battery Parking Garage, located on the west side of downtown Manhattan.
The project encompassed creation of a new curved glass and aluminum frame façade and entrance, a new sidewalk, and all new interiors including the auditorium, stage, hallway, rehearsal space, dressing rooms and office in addition to an extensive MEP infrastructure.
The theater’s striking architectural features include the distinctive curved glass façade and futuristic entry corridor tunnel reminiscent of a sci-fi movie set. The façade allows passersby to observe both the rehearsals and the performances. The main theater features an extensive computer-controlled lighting system, backstage facilities and theatrical rigging.
The interior finishes include curved sheetrock walls and ceilings, masonry walls, exposed concrete ceilings, and carpet, VCT, ceramic tile, epoxy, and rubber-clad flooring. Buildings systems include six large Trane units with both exposed and enclosed discharge ductwork located on a newly-constructed Mezzanine level. Also installed were new fire alarm, plumbing and electrical systems.
